Specifications

The Toyota 1GR-FE engine is a 4.0-liter (3,956 cc) naturally aspirated 60-degree V6 gasoline engine engineered with a strong emphasis on reliability, torque delivery, and off-road durability. It uses an aluminum cylinder block with pressed-in cast-iron liners for strength and heat dissipation, paired with aluminum DOHC cylinder heads and a 24-valve layout. The engine employs a timing chain rather than a belt, reducing maintenance requirements and improving long-term durability. With a bore of 94 mm and a stroke of 95 mm, the slightly undersquare design favors strong mid-range torque, making it well suited for towing and heavy-duty use. 

Depending on the production year, the 1GR-FE features Toyota’s VVT-i system on the intake camshafts or Dual VVT-i on both intake and exhaust, improving throttle response, fuel efficiency, and emissions compliance. Output varies by application and tuning, ranging from approximately 236 to 285 horsepower and 266 to 285 lb-ft of torque. Fuel delivery is handled by electronic multipoint fuel injection, and later versions incorporate electronic.

EJ207 (2.0L Turbocharged)

The EJ207 is a high-performance 2.0-liter turbocharged flat-four engine developed mainly for the Japanese Domestic Market WRX STI models. It’s known for its strength and high-revving nature, it features forged pistons, a reinforced crankshaft, and aggressive cam profiles. Designed to handle higher boost and sustained high RPM, the EJ207 delivers sharp throttle response and strong top-end power, making it a favorite among enthusiasts and tuners. 

EJ257 (2.5L Turbocharged)

The EJ257 is a larger-displacement 2.5-liter turbocharged flat-four used primarily in North American and other international WRX STI models. Its increased displacement provides noticeably stronger low- and mid-range torque, producing around 300–305 horsepower and roughly 290 lb-ft of torque in stock form. While it doesn’t rev as high as the EJ207, the EJ257 is valued for its punchy power delivery and everyday drivability, especially in street and track applications.
