The Toyota 2GR-FE engine is a 3.5-liter (3,456 cc) naturally aspirated V6 engine that has been widely used since 2005 in various Toyota and Lexus models such as the Toyota Camry, Toyota RAV4, Toyota Highlander, and Lexus RX 350. It features between 268 and 314 horsepower and 248 to 260 lb-ft of torque, supported by a relatively high 10.8:1 compression ratio that enhances efficiency and performance. The engine features Dual VVT-i (Variable Valve Timing with intelligence) on both intake and exhaust cams, along with a durable timing chain system that reduces long-term maintenance compared to timing belts.

It usually makes about 268 to 301 horsepower and 248 to 267 lb-ft of torque, depending on the vehicle. This engine is known for being strong, reliable, and delivering smooth power. 

2GR-FSE

The 2GR-FSE upgrades performance with Toyota’s D-4S fuel system, which combines direct and port injection for improved combustion efficiency. It runs a higher compression ratio (11.8:1) and produces approximately 306 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque. This variant delivers sharper throttle response and better fuel economy, and is commonly found in premium models like the Lexus IS 350, GS 350, and Toyota Crown. 

2GR-FXE (Hybrid / Atkinson Cycle)

The 2 GR-FXE is designed for hybrid efficiency, operating on the Atkinson cycle to maximize fuel economy. It produces around 245-259hp, delivering higher combined output when paired with electric motors. 2GR-FZE (Supercharged Variant)

The 2GR-FZE is a supercharged performance version of the 2GR-FE, equipped with an Eaton supercharger for significantly increased output. It generates around 345–416 horsepower and up to 295 lb-ft of torque, depending on tuning. Designed for high-performance applications, it is used in vehicles like the Lotus Evora S, Exige S, and TRD Aurion, delivering aggressive acceleration and track-ready performance.

2GR-FXS (Hybrid with D-4S)

The 2GR-FXS combines the advanced features of the FKS variant D-4S injection and VVT-iW with a hybrid powertrain. It operates primarily on the Atkinson cycle for efficiency while maintaining strong performance when needed. The engine itself produces around 259 horsepower, with higher combined system output. This variant is used in newer hybrid luxury models such as the Lexus RX 450h, offering a refined blend of power and fuel economy.
