Output varies by generation, ranging from about 160 to 200 horsepower and 235 to 260 lb-ft of torque, emphasizing low-RPM pulling power.

Fuel delivery evolved from throttle-body and central port injection to multi-port and later direct injection, with newer versions also featuring variable valve timing for improved efficiency. The engine runs on regular unleaded fuel, is commonly paired with manual or automatic transmissions, and earned a reputation for long service life, smooth operation, and ease of maintenance, making it a popular choice in Chevrolet and GMC pickups, vans, and SUVs.

LU3 4.3 Vortec V6

The LU3 4.3 Vortec V6 is an updated early-2000s version of GM’s long-running 4.3-liter engine, retaining the 90-degree OHV V6 design with a cast-iron block and heads, 4,293 cc displacement, and a 9.2:1 compression ratio. It uses sequential multi-port fuel injection and produces around 190–200 horsepower and 250–260 lb-ft of torque, delivering strong low-RPM performance for trucks and vans, with select later applications incorporating Active Fuel Management for improved fuel efficiency.

LV3 4.3 EcoTec3 V6

The LV3 is the most advanced 4.3L Vortec variant, featuring direct fuel injection, continuously variable valve timing, and Active Fuel Management as part of GM’s EcoTec3 family. With the same 4,293 cc displacement but a higher 11.0:1 compression ratio, it generates approximately 285 horsepower and 305 lb-ft of torque, offering significantly improved power, efficiency, and emissions performance while remaining compatible with regular unleaded fuel in Silverado, Sierra, and GM full-size van applications.

LV1 4.3 EcoTec3 V6

The LV1 shares the EcoTec3 architecture of the LV3, including direct injection, variable valve timing, and an 11.0:1 compression ratio, but omits Active Fuel Management for greater mechanical simplicity. Producing roughly 276–285 horsepower and about 305 lb-ft of torque, it is primarily used in Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana vans, where durability, consistent power delivery, and ease of maintenance are more important than cylinder deactivation fuel savings.
