Specifications

The BMW M5 engine (G90) (2024–2025) marks a significant evolution in high-performance sedans by integrating electrification with traditional M engineering. It is powered by a 4.4-litre M TwinPower Turbo V8 engine paired with a powerful electric motor, forming the advanced M Hybrid drive system developed by BMW. This combination produces an impressive 727 hp (535 kW) and 1,000 Nm of torque, making it one of the most powerful M5 models ever created.

The power is delivered through an 8-speed M Steptronic transmission and BMW’s M xDrive all-wheel-drive system, providing excellent traction and stability even at extremely high speeds. Featuring a sophisticated performance setup, the car accelerates from 0–100 km/h in just 3.5 seconds, delivering both instant electric torque and the thrilling sound of a twin-turbo V8 engine.

In addition to its remarkable performance, the hybrid system allows the sedan to operate in electric-only mode for short distances, improving efficiency and reducing emissions during every day driving. The vehicle also features advanced chassis technology, adaptive suspension, and high-performance braking systems designed to maintain precise handling and control. With its combination of electrified power, cutting-edge technology, and luxury sedan comfort, the BMW M5 (G90) demonstrates how modern hybrid engineering can enhance performance while maintaining the legendary driving experience associated with the BMW M lineup.

Model Compatibility

2024 (G90): 4.4L Twin-Turbo V8 Hybrid

The BMW M5 (G90) represents the newest generation of the M5, combining traditional V8 performance with advanced hybrid technology. It uses a 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine paired with a powerful electric motor to create BMW’s M Hybrid system. Together, they produce up to 727 hp and 1,000 Nm of torque, making it the most powerful production M5 to date. The power is delivered through an 8-speed M Steptronic transmission and BMW’s M xDrive all-wheel-drive system, allowing the car to accelerate from 0–100 km/h in about 3.5 seconds while also offering short-distance electric-only driving for improved efficiency.

2017–2023 (F90): 4.4L Twin-Turbo V8 (S63)

The BMW M5 (F90) introduced major technological improvements, including the first use of BMW’s M xDrive all-wheel-drive system in the M5 lineup. Powered by a 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged S63 V8 engine, it produces up to 617 hp in the Competition version. The engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission, enabling the sedan to accelerate from 0–100 km/h in around 3.3 seconds. Despite its AWD capability, the system can switch to rear-wheel-drive mode, preserving the classic M driving dynamics.

2011–2016 (F10): 4.4L Twin-Turbo V8 (S63)

The BMW M5 (F10) marked the transition from naturally aspirated engines to turbocharged power in the M5 series. It features a 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged S63 V8 engine producing 560 hp, which increases to 575 hp in the Competition Package. The engine is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission that delivers fast gear shifts and strong acceleration. This generation balances high performance with improved efficiency and advanced driver-assistance technologies.

2005–2010 (E60/E61): 5.0L V10 (S85)

The BMW M5 (E60) sedan and BMW M5 Touring (E61) wagon are known for their unique 5.0-litre naturally aspirated V10 engine, inspired by BMW’s Formula 1 technology at the time. The S85 engine produces 500 hp and revs up to an impressive 8,250 rpm, delivering an exhilarating driving experience. Paired with a 7-speed SMG automated manual transmission, this generation is widely regarded as one of the most distinctive and high-revving performance sedans ever produced by BMW.
