It keeps the 2,979cc displacement, 84 mm bore, and 89.6 mm stroke, along with twin Mitsubishi TD03 turbochargers and direct fuel injection. Output remained similar to the standard N54, typically around 302 hp and 400 Nm, though final numbers varied slightly by model. The TU update introduced revised engine management, improved sensors, and minor hardware changes aimed at smoother operation, better fuel control, and reduced emissions.

The N54B30T0 is the high-performance version of BMW’s 3.0L twin-turbo N54 engine, specially tuned for Alpina and select BMW performance models. It retains the 2,979cc inline-six layout with an all-aluminum block, forged crankshaft, and direct injection but features upgraded turbochargers, enhanced cooling, and Alpina-specific ECU calibration to deliver between 335 hp and 402 hp depending on the application, along with 400–540 Nm of torque.
